Well, if you’re a regular visitor, you surely must have noticed the overhaul.
The previous incarnation of the site had recently reached a dead end: my custom “Frankentheme” (stitched together from organs of other themes) just wasn’t holding up well anymore, the CSS was all over the place, the site used way too many plugins, and the SEO wasn’t anywhere near where it could have been.
I have spent several weeks researching various potential upgrade-options. It became clear fairly quickly that a premium theme would have to be the way to go, especially since I was hoping to find sort of a “one-stop-shop” solution, a theme that was versatile enough to truly hold everything together.
I looked at Thesis, Genesis and Frugal before running into Headway. First I was quite skeptical about its emphasis on the “Visual Editor” – a drag-and-drop editing interface – but the more I found out about it the more interesting it seemed.
I finally took the plunge when V2.0 was released, and I’m happy to report that the theme has exceeded my expectations in every conceivable way – the Visual Editor is everything it claims to be and more, the Live CSS Editor is a breath of fresh air, the leaf-based structure is extremely convenient, I could get rid of at least half a dozen plugins, and my SEO has never been better.
In fact, this is the first time in the history of this site that I decided to actively endorse and promote a product.
I truly believe that Headway is a brilliantly innovative creation that sets a new standard. Very highly recommended.
October 2012 update: Switched to the 3.0 version of Headway. Since the 3.0 architecture is all-new and there is (as of yet) no direct upgrade-path, this involved some initial frustration and quite a bit of work, but it was more than worth it. It’s yet another huge leap forward that’s better in every way than its predecessor. My verdict is unchanged – still very highly recommended.
